HOW TO MEASURE FOR A NEW GARAGE DOOR

Step One

To determine the size door that you need, measure the opening. The door will be the same size as the opening. Be sure the door frame is square. If not, adjust the measurement to cover the entire opening.

  • Door Opening Width =
  • Door Opening Height =

Step Two

A minimum of 3 inches on each side of the door is needed for the installation of the vertical tracks (3 & 4). If the minimum space is not available, the width of the opening must be made smaller.
Step Three

Headroom (5) is the distance between the top of the door to the ceiling or floor joists. You need 8-1/2 inches for a standard lift extension spring hardware. 12 inches are required for the torsion spring system., plus 2 inches for the installation of an electric operator. Special low headroom hardware is available.
Step Four

The distance between the front wall to the back wall is your backroom (6). You need the height of the door plus 26 inches. If you are installing an electric opener, the height of the door plus 43 inches is required.
